The 1660-61 Shilling Charles II First Hammered Issue by Thomas SimonThe first hammered issue of the Charles II shilling, engraved by Thomas Simon. Not long afterwards the coinage moved to milled coins. SCBC: 3308.
The Obverse shows the crowned bust of Charles II. Legend is "CAROLVS. II. D. G. MAG. BRIT. FR. ET. HIB. REX".
The Reverse is a long cross fourchée over quartered shield of arms, more squat smaller harp with seven strings, no stop above shield. Legend: "CHRISTO. AVSPICE. REGNO". Variants may have different sized harps.
