The 2025 Silver Sovereign ProofMaybe it's a sign of the times that with gold prices being at record highs so many times during 2024 the only way most people can afford to own a sovereign is to make it from silver. And so the reality emerges and for the first time ever the Royal Mint has produced a silver sovereign.
The coin has a diameter of 22.05mm and weighs 7.99g. Same design as the gold sovereign, but in 999 silver. And to show their confidence in that decision, the Limited Edition mintage is set at 50,000.
The marketing doesn't stop there; besides this standard silver sovereign proof coin the Royal Mint have also minted a PREMIUM silver proof sovereign which has a privy mark.
The Reverse of the 2025 Silver Sovereign Proof is what you may expect of a silver coin that emulates a gold counterpart. The reverse image is Benedetto Pistrucci’s classic St George and the dragon. To the right of the date are the engravers initial, 'B.P.'.
The edge is milled.
The Obverse is the portrait of King Charles III by Martin Jennings (initials 'MJ' below neck). Legend "CHARLES III DEI GRA REX FID DEF".Maximum mintage is 50,010.
