The 2025 Gold Sovereign Shield ProofThis 2025 Gold Sovereign Proof commemorates the 200th anniversary of Jean Baptiste Merlen's Shield design.
Three sovereigns will appear in 2025: this Jean Baptiste Merlen's Shield Proof; St George and the Dragon Proof Sovereign; and the 2025 Bullion Gold Sovereign. It will be the final year that the Royal Mint produces the sovereign in rose gold, opting to move future production away from the red-hued metal to the more traditional yellow gold.
The Reverse shows the famous shield design of Jean Baptiste Merlen, which shows the Royal Arms.
Edge is milled.
The Obverse is the portrait of King Charles III by Martin Jennings (initials 'MJ' below neck). Legend "CHARLES III DEI GRA REX FID DEF".Limited Edition mintage is 5,000.
