Classification: Roman Emperor, Roman Imperial (96-235AD)
Reign: 28-Mar-0193 - 01-Jun-0193.

Didius Julianus was the second Emperor in the Year of the Five Emperors (193AD).

Marcus Didius Julianus was born on 29 January 133AD and was a leading politician, governing several provinces and was made Consul in 175AD. However, when Commodus became Emperor he demoted Didius Julianus and his career declined.

When Pertinax was assassinated by the Praetorian Guard, the Guard decided to auction off the Imperial title and Didius Julianus 'bought' the Empire by offering 25,000 sesterces (Sestertius) to every soldier. A few months later both the Senate and the Praetorian Guard abandoned him and Didius Julianus was killed at the palace by a soldier on 2 June 193AD after only 66 days of rule.
