What happended in 1974?
After the problems of a 3-day week due to the miners strike, a February election sees Harold Wilson (Labour) back as Prime Minister but only by 301-297 seats. The hung parliament was unsustainable and another General Election was called in October with Wilson getting a small overall majority of 3 seats. The IRA bombing campaign continues. ABBA win the Eurovision song contest in Brighton. The first UK McDonalds opens in Woolwich, London. Inflation soars to 17.2%.
