British polar explorer Robert Falcon Scott and team reach the South Pole to find that Roald Amundsen had beaten them to it. Captain Lawrence Oates, ill member of Scott's South Pole expedition sacrifices himself by leaving the tent saying, "I am just going outside and may be some time." He is not seen again. Captain Scott and the rest of his team also perish in the Antarctic. Back home, Suffragettes cause trouble, National Insurance Payments are introduced and the University Boat race is abandoned when both boats sink. The Olympics are in Stockholm.
