68AD-69AD As – Galba

68AD 69AD As Emperor Galba Obverse

The 68AD-69AD As - Galba

Copper As of Roman Emperor Galba, struck around July 68AD and January 69AD. Diameter 27mm, weighs 8.232g. This coin is quite badly worn.

The Obverse shows the Bare head of Galba facing right. Legend is "IMP SER GALBA CAES" (only partly visible).

The Reverse shows the Goddess Libertas standing facing left extending a pileus in her right hand. Legend around is "LIBERTAS [PVBLICA]". Divided across is "S C". SC means senatus consultum, or 'by decree of the Senate' so the coin was an official issue.
