The Obverse shows Claudius facing left, bare head. Legend is "TI CLAVDIVS CAESAR AVG P M TR P IMP P P".
The Reverse shows Libertas (the Roman goddess and personification of liberty) standing, holding a pileus (a small felt brimless hat) in left hand and extending the right hand. Legend is "LIBERTAS AVGVSTA" (meaning venerable freedom).SC (split across figure) means senatus consultum, or 'by decree of the Senate' so the coin was an official issue.
