The 2024 Waterloo Medal Allied Leaders - 2oz Silver Proof £5 - Charles III

Benedetto Pistrucci’s Waterloo Medal is considered one of his finest works and has been chosen to be part of the Royal Mint's Great Engravers Collection. The coin is struck from dies created using moulds of the original Pistrucci tooling.

Pistrucci was a brilliant but controversial figure, and after a disagreement with the Royal Mint dragged out the design of the medal for thirty years. You can read the story here: Who was Benedetto Pistrucci?

This is the 2oz silver proof coin, denominated as £5, but it is also available in various silver and gold weights carrying the same design.

The reverse show the ornate design by Benedetto Pistrucci and shows the four allied leaders: George, Prince Regent (later King George IV); Francis II (Emperor of Austria); Alexander I (Emperor of Russia); and Frederick William III (King of Prussia).

The edge is milled.

The Obverse shows a bare head portrait of King Charles III by Martin Jennings.

Limited Edition mintage is 2,950, with maximum mintage of 3,060. 2 ounces (62.86g) of 999 fine silver. Diameter 40mm.
