The 2024 National Gallery Two Pound - Charles IIIThe Royal Mint commemorates 200 years of the National Gallery of Art. It is an art museum built in 1824 and is situated in Trafalgar Square, London.
The coin is released denominated as £2 in both BU and Silver Proof, with a silver proof piedfort, gold proof £2 and another gold coin in a 1/40th ounce coin with the same design.
The Reverse, by Edwina Ellis, shows the front view of the National Gallery. Legend around top is "200 YEARS OF THE NATIONAL GALLERY".
Edge is fine milled incuse edge lettering with the Latin inscription "MAIORVM GLORIA POSTERIS LVMEN EST" which means "the glory of our ancestors is a light to our descendants".
The Obverse shows a portrait of King Charles III by Martin Jennings. Artists initials 'MJ' just below neck.Coin shown is the silver proof version (Minatge 2,500).
