The 2024 Giant Deer 50p Silver Proof - Ice Age Giants - Charles IIIThe third and final coin in a 3-coin collection from the Royal Mint called 'Ice Age Giants', is the Giant Deer.
Also known by the scientific name Megaloceros, the deers lived across Eurasia from the Pleistocene to the early Holocene (about 2.6 million to 11,700 years ago). It was about the size of a modern Moose.
The Royal Mint created the collection in collaboration with the Natural History Museum and with the advice of palaeobiologist Professor Adrian Lister. The coins are available in Limited Editions as BU, BU Colour, Silver proof, silver proof colour, and gold proof. Available individually and in sets. The 3-coin sets consist of the Steppe Mammoth, Woolly Rhinoceros and the Giant Deer.
The Reverse of the Giant Deer 50p was designed by Robert Nicholls and shows Giant Deer with its huge antlers. Text is "MEGALOCEROS" and "GIANT DEER". Designer initials "RN" to right.
The Obverse is the portrait of King Charles III by Martin Jennings. Legend "CHARLES III D G REX F D 50 PENCE 2024".Limited Edition Mintage is 2,500.
