The 2024 Diplodocus 50p BU Colourised - Tales of the Earth - Charles IIIThe third coin in the Tales of the Earth collection from the Royal Mint is the Diplodocus. They were large - typically 85 feet and weighed 15 tons. Diplodocus lived about 150 million years ago at the end of the Jurassic period. The Natural History Museum has a very famous skeleton of a Diplodocus called 'Dippy'.
The coin is available in BU, BU Colour, Silver Proof Colour, and Gold Proof. There is also, with the same design, a 1oz silver proof and 1/4oz gold coin.
The Reverse, by Robert Nicholls, shows a Stegosaurus, with the skeleton of a Diplodocus in the foreground. The text is 'DIPLODOCUS' and 'JURASSIC'.
The Obverse is the portrait of King Charles III by Martin Jennings. Legend "CHARLES III D G REX F D 50 PENCE 2024".Coin shown is the colourised 2024 Diplodocus Brilliant Uncirculated (BU) 50p. The Tales of the Earth set consists of Tyrannosaurus, Stegosaurus and Diplodocus.
