The 2023 Quarter - Edith Kanaka'oleEdith Kanaka'ole (30 October 1913 – 3 October 1979), known as Aunty Edith, was an indigenous Hawaiian composer, dancer, custodian of native culture and traditions.
The reverse, by Renata Gordon (Sculptor) and Emily Damstra (Designer), depicts a portrait of Edith Kanaka'ole, with her hair and lei po'o (head lei) morphing into the elements of a Hawaiian landscape. "E ho mai ka 'ike" translates as "granting the wisdom".
The Obverse is a portrait of George Washington by Laura Gardin Fraser (1889-1966).
