The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe is the best known book from the The Chronicles of Narnia series by C.S. Lewis (1898-1963). It was published in 1950 and has sold about 120 million copies. It is also a blockbuster film with the same name.
The coin is 916.67 Fine Gold, weighs 15.5g and has a diameter of 27.3mm.
The 50p coin from the Royal Mint celebrates this classic of fantasy fiction. The Reverse was created by Ffion Gwillim and features one of the original illustrations of Lucy and Mr Tumnus by Pauline Baynes.
The The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe 50p coin is available in BU, BU Colourised, Silver Proof Colourised and Gold Proof. Released 28 September 2023.
The Obverse shows a bare head portrait of King Charles III by Martin Jennings.Gold Proof version has a Limited Edition mintage of 100, and maximum mintage of 110. Silver Proof version has a Limited Edition mintage of 5,000, with a maximum mintage of 5,010. BU Colour version has a Limited Edition of 10,000.
