The 2023 Fifty Pence The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe - Charles IIIThe Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe is the best known book from the The Chronicles of Narnia series by C.S. Lewis (1898-1963). It was published in 1950 and has sold about 120 million copies. It is also a blockbuster film with the same name.
The 50p coin from the Royal Mint celebrates this classic of fantasy fiction. The Reverse was created by Ffion Gwillim and features one of the original illustrations of Lucy and Mr Tumnus by Pauline Baynes.
The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe 50p coin is available in BU, BU Colourised, Silver Proof Colourised and Gold Proof. Released 28 September 2023.
The Obverse shows a bare head portrait of King Charles III by Martin Jennings.Silver Proof version has a Limited Edition mintage of 5,000, with a maximum mintage of 5,010. BU Colour version has a Limited Edition of 10,000. Gold LE is 100.
