The 2022 Quarter - Wilma Mankiller
The Wilma Mankiller Quarter was the third coin to be released in the American Women Quarters™ Program.
Wilma Mankiller (1945-2010) was the first woman elected principal Chief of the Cherokee Nation. She was also an activist for Native American and women’s rights.
The Reverse shows Wilma Mankiller, wrapped in a traditional shawl. To her left is the seven-pointed star of the Cherokee Nation. Text includes "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA", "WILMA MANKILLER", PRINCIPAL CHIEF", "E PLURIBUS UNUM" and "QUARTER DOLLAR". The name of the Cherokee Nation written in the Cherokee syllabary. Sculptor was Phebe Hemphill and designer was Benjamin Sowards.

The Obverse shows a portrait of George Washington facing right designed by American sculptor Laura Gardin Fraser (1889-1966). The image was originally submitted in 1931. Text includes "LIBERTY", "IN GOD WE TRUST" and the date "2022".
