The 2022 100th Anniversary of the Discovery of Tutankhamun's Tomb £5In 1922 the British archaeologist and Egyptologist Howard Carter discovered the best preserved Pharaonic tomb ever found in the Valley of the Kings - Tutankhamun's Tomb. Tutankhamun reigned in the 18th Dynasty, around 1332 – 1323BC. He was a boy King, being only 19 when he died.
The Royal Mint has produced a £5 coin to commemorate the 100th Anniversary of the Discovery of Tutankhamun's Tomb. The coin is created as BU, Silver Proof, Silver Proof Piedfort and Gold Proof.
The Reverse, by Laura Clancy, shows the head of King Tutankhamun gold burial mask. Text on the coin is "DISCOVERY OF TUTANKHAMUN'S TOMB".
The edge of the BU coin is milled, but on the proof coins the edge has plain incuse edge lettering "THE VALLEY OF THE KINGS".
