The 2022 50 Pence Coin - Alan TuringThe Alan Turing 50p is the final coin in the Royal Mint's Innovation in Science 50p series. Alan Turing was a mathematician and his work was the precursor of the modern digital computer and AI. Alan Turing is also widely known for his cryptographic work on breaking the Enigma coding machine during WWII.
The coin is issued as BU, Silver Proof, Silver Proof Piedfort, and Gold Proof. These Alan Turing 50p coins are available (subject to stock) from the Royal Mint Shop. (Product Code UK22ATSP).
The Reverse, by Matt Dent and Christian Davies, shows some aspects of code breaking and an image of the 'Bombe', a machine created by Alan Turing to automate the cracking of the code.
