This 50p coin is to recognise the work of John Logie Baird (13 August 1888 – 14 June 1946), the Scottish Inventor who is considered the Father of modern television. In 1926 he demonstrated the World's first working television and later gave the first public demonstration of colour television.

The Reverse, designed by Osborne Ross, show a set of concentric circles as electromagnetic waves emanating from a television mast, annotated with text of major landmarks in the life of John Logie Baird.

The Obverse shows a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II by Jody Clark.

The coin is part of the Royal Mint's 'Great Britons' collection. It is also the third coin in the 'Innovation in Science' series.
