The 2021 1oz Gold Proof Coin - Alice in Wonderland

Gold one-ounce version of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and the first coin from the Royal Mint’s Treasury of Tales collection.

Alice's Adventures in Wonderland is a book published in 1865 by Lewis Carrol (a pseudonym of Charles Dodgson). It is a fantasy story of a young girl who falls through a rabbit hole into a mysterious World full of strange people and talking animals, such as the White Rabbit, Cheshire Cat and Queen of Hearts. It is one of the most popular books in English literature.

This coin is a 999.9 fine gold proof, weighing 31.21g. Diameter 32.69g. Denominated as £100. Limited Edition mintage set at 150, and maximum mintage limited is 160.

In the series there is a one-ounce silver proof (colourised), half-ounce silver proof (not colourised), BU £5 (colourised) and gold coins were also minted.

The Reverse, by Ffion Gwillim, shows Alice talking to the Cheshire Cat which is based on an original Sir John Tennie illustration from the book.

Edge is milled.

The Obverse shows a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II by Jody Clark.

Quarter-ounce gold coins of the same design were also minted and limited to 500.
