The 2012 Gold Sovereign Bullion - Elizabeth IIChanges to the Reverse design of a gold sovereign are rare, but as 2012 was Queen Elizabeth II’s Diamond Jubilee, celebrating 60 years of reign, the Sovereign did feature a new reverse design for that year only.
A new portrayal of St. George and the Dragon has been created for the reverse, designed by Paul Day. Due to the Diamond Jubilee commemoration and the spectacular St. George and the Dragon design, these sovereigns are very collectable so expect to pay a premium even for the bullion version.
The Edge is milled.
The Obverse shows Queen Elizabeth II’s fourth portrait designed by Ian Rank-Broadley.In that year, 2012, proof and non-proof (UNC) Sovereigns were issued, as was quarter-, half- and double-sovereigns and a £5 coin. The Royal Mint also offered all the coins as a 5-coin set.
