The 2009 Two Pound Coin - Robert BurnsThe coin celebrates the 250th Anniversary of the birth of Robert Burns.
Robert Burns (1759-1796), also known as Rabbie Burns, the Bard of Ayrshire and other names, was a Scottish poet and lyricist. He is widely regarded as the national poet of Scotland and is celebrated worldwide. His works include "Auld Lang Syne" which is now popular as a song at midnight of New Years Eve.
Burns Night is usually celebrated around 25 January each year.
A handwriting style of font reads "we'll tak a cup a' kindness yet, for auld lang syne". The words "1759 ROBERT BURNS 1796" are above and "TWO POUNDS" below It was designed by the Royal Mint Engraving Team.
The edge is milled and the inscription is the famous line "SHOULD AULD ACQUAINTANCE BE FORGOT".
The obverse is the Ian Rank-Broadley portrait of Queen Elizabeth II.
