The 2009 Gold 2 Pound - Robert BurnsRobert Burns (1759-1796), also known as Rabbie Burns, the Bard of Ayrshire and other names, was a Scottish poet and lyricist. He is widely regarded as the national poet of Scotland and is celebrated worldwide. His works include "Auld Lang Syne" which is now popular as a song at midnight of New Years Eve.
The coin celebrates the 250th Anniversary of the birth of Robert Burns.
A handwriting style of font reads "we'll tak a cup a' kindness yet, for auld lang syne". The words "1759 ROBERT BURNS 1796" are above and "TWO POUNDS" below It was designed by the Royal Mint Engraving Team.
The edge is milled and the inscription is the famous line "SHOULD AULD ACQUAINTANCE BE FORGOT".
Queen Elizabeth II's fourth portrait can be seen on the obverse, designed by Ian Rank-Broadley.The two pounds piece is made of solid 22 carat gold (Gold Fineness of 0.916), and weighs 15.98 grams. It has a diameter of 28.40mm. The outer disc is made of 'red' gold, with the inner disc being 'yellow' gold.
The coin was originally housed in a Royal Mint acrylic screw top capsule, presented in a Royal Mint wooden case with outer black card box, accompanied with an individually numbered certificate of authenticity (COA).Only 1,000 gold proof 'Robert Burns' two pounds pieces were issued by the Royal Mint in 2009.
