The 2002 Two Pound Coin - Commonwealth Games IrelandIn 2002 the XVII Commonwealth Games were held in Manchester, England. Four £2 coins were produced for the event but the design only varied slightly with a different flag for each of the home countries: England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
This is the Northern Ireland coin and it was the lowest mintage of the four coins.
The base design is by Matthew Bonaccorsi who depicted an athlete holding a banner. The inscription is 'COMMONWEALTH GAMES 2002'.
The obverse is the Ian Rank-Broadley portrait of Queen Elizabeth II.
Edge inscription reads 'SPIRIT OF FRIENDSHIP, MANCHESTER 2002'.
