The 1897 Quarter Dollar - Barber/Liberty HeadBarber Quarter Dollar (25 cents) also known as the Liberty Head Quarter, was designed by Charles E Barber as part of the Barber coinage 1892-1916 which consisted of dimes, quarters and half-dollars. 90% silver, diameter 24.3mm, weight 6.25g.
In 1897 coins were minted at Philadelphia (no mint mark), New Orleans (mint mark 'O') and San Francisco (mint mark 'S'). If present, the mint mark is on the reverse just below the eagle.
This coin is the 1897-P and is easy to find due to its large mintage. A smaller number of Proof coins were also minted. Front and back were designed by Charles E Barber in 1891.
The Obverse shows the head of Liberty.
Edge is reeded.
The Reverse shows the heraldic eagle based in the Great Seal of the United States.Mintage: 8,140,000 (may include coins in sets)
