The 1896 Penny - VictoriaThe Veiled or Old Head Bronze Penny of Queen Victoria. SCBC: 3961. The Old Head portrait on the penny ran 1895-1901, although silver and gold coins used it from the diamond jubilee in 1893.
The Reverse, by Leonard Charles Wyon, shows the seated figure of Britannia, with a trident in her left hand and hold a Union shield at her side with her right hand. She sits on a rock with the sea and a lighthouse in the background. Legend "ONE PENNY" around. In exergue is the date.
