The 1879 Morgan Dollar USAMorgan Silver Dollar dated 1879 and minted at the Philadelphia branch of the US Mint (no mint mark). The coin is named after the designer, George T. Morgan, who at the time was United States Mint Assistant Engraver.
In 1879 Morgan Dollars were minted at Philadelphia (no mint mark), New Orleans ('O'), San Francisco ('F') and Carson City ('CC). The Mint mark (if present) can be found above the DO in DOLLAR. The are several variants.
A proof coin was also released.
The Obverse shows an image of Liberty, designed by George T Morgan.
The edge is reeded (milled).
