The Young Head half-sovereigns (1838-1887) had quite a number of minor changes. 1877 Half-Sovereigns were also minted in Australia at the Sydney and Melbourne mints. Low grade coins are usually sold for bullion value.
The Reverse, by Jean Baptiste Merlen, shows a crowned and garnished quartered shield of arms. Die number is below shield (in this case 148).
