1839 Gold Sovereign Proof minted by the Royal Mint in London. First (Small) Head by William Wyon. Some variations but all 1839 proofs are expensive. SCBC 3852. 

The Obverse is a portrait of Queen Victoria, Young Head by William Wyon.

The Edge is milled.

The Reverse, by Jean Baptiste Merlen, is a crowned shield containing the emblems of England, Scotland and Ireland.
