The 1832 Capped Bust Half Dollar (50 cent). Lettered Edge (with Motto)Silver Half Dollar. Capped Bust (Large Size), With Motto 1807–1836. Lettered Edge type. Diameter 32.5mm, weight 13.48g. Silver content 89.2%, with 10.8% being copper.
The Capped Bust was used on the half dollar 1807–1839 and the design was also used on the half dime, dime and quarter. The designer of the capped-head Liberty was John Reich and modified by Chief Engraver of the Mint, William Kneass. The Capped Bust is also known as the "Turban Head".
The Obverse shows the Capped Bust surrounded with 13 stars and date below.
The Reverse is a bald eagle holding three arrows and an olive branch. The motto "E PLURIBUS UNUM" is above (which was removed in 1866). Around is "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" and the denomination is below as "50C". The 1832 coin can have larger letters as a variant.Edge inscription also has the denomination: "FIFTY CENTS OR HALF A DOLLAR". Vertical lines between words.
