The 1819 Gold Sovereign - George IIIWith a mintage of only 3,574, this makes this Sovereign one of the rarest - and consequently demands a high price. About 10 are known to exist, but if you'd like one then don't expect much change out of £200,000.
King George III’s portrait can be seen on the obverse of the coin and Benedetto Pistrucci’s famous portrayal of St George and the dragon is depicted on the reverse. There is also a rumour that there was just one proof - which is currently lost.
