The 1707 Crown - Anne (Edinburgh)Rare Queen Anne Silver Crown, minted in 1707, the year of the formation of the United Kingdom of Great Britain. Under the bust is 'E' showing the coin was minted in Edinburgh, and now (in 1707) part of the new British coinage.
0.925 silver. Diameter 38.60mm and weighs 30.10g.
1707 is a complex year for crowns, as a 1707 coin was released pre-union with Scotland, and then released post-union with a changed shield design in the reverse and with a mint mark of 'E' to represent Edinburgh. The coin's edge has the regnal year which in 1707 can be SEXTO or SEPTIMO. Later in 1707 the Royal Mint issued a second draped bust issue, also SEPTIMO.
The coin shown is the SCBC 3600 with 'E' below the bust.
The Obverse, by John Croker, shows a bust of Queen Anne facing left. The Edinburgh mint mark 'E' is below the bust.
The Reverse, by Johann Ochs, shows crowned cruciform shields. Dated 1707.The edge shows the regnal date.
Coin was slabbed and graded AU53 by PCGS. This coin can be quite expensive in this condition, £5,000+.
