The Reverse shows a coat-of-arms over long cross fourchée with "EB OR" above (EBOR is an early name for York). Legend: "CHRIST O AVSPI CE REG NO"
The Obverse shows a portrait of King Charles I facing left, wearing a scalloped lace collar and a square topped crown. Lion passant at the top indicates 1643-1644.
Legend: "CAROLVS D G MAG BRI FRA ET HI REX".
The XII is a mark of value (12 pence = one shilling).
