The 1601 Crown - Elizabeth IThe Reverse shows a royal shield over long cross fourchée (pitchfork shape at ends). Legend is ":POSVI: DEVM: ADIVTOREM: MEVM:" meaning I have made God my helper.
This is a 0.925 silver crown. It is said to be the Sixth issue, minted at the Tower mint (London Mint). It is undated but was struck around 1601-1602 as crowns were only issued in those years. On the Observe just after the REGINA is the number 1. This is a mintmark and indicates 1601.
The Obverse shows a portrait of Queen Elizabeth I described as a "crowned bust left in elaborate dress, holding scepter in right hand, globus cruciger in left".Legend is "ELIZABETH: D’. G’. ANG’. FRA’. ET: HIBER’. REGINA:" meaning Elizabeth [Dei Gratia] by the Grace of God Queen of England, France and Ireland.
